Key learnings

This podcast’s key learnings are:

  • As we age, we require a higher dose of protein to maximally stimulate the muscle response to protein due to anabolic resistance.
  • From a metabolic standpoint, loss of muscle mass begins a lot earlier in life than we originally thought, therefore early intervention is key to help prevent this decline.
  • We can help to mitigate age-related loss of muscle mass by ensuring we continue lifestyle activities throughout the lifespan e.g physical activity.
  • For master athletes, increased protein requirements must be carefully balanced with other nutritional needs to ensure overall energy and nutrient needs are met.
