Key learnings

This podcast’s key learnings are:

  • At a basic level, the two most common nutritional challenges during extreme events are meeting energy and fluid needs.
  • Whilst the energy costs during extreme challenges will be high, appetite can be challenged under certain conditions therefore food palability is a key factor to consider.
  • It's important to replicate event conditions and trial different foods and supplements during training to understand your athlete's preferences in extreme environments.
  • Work with your athlete to co-create the event plan and give them additional confidence for the event.
