GetPRO Professional has announced funding for five new projects across the UK. After a successful launch in 2024 in partnership with the Nutrition Society, the GetPRO Professional Sports Nutrition Grant Programme continues its support of early career sports nutritionists who are working with local sporting clubs and grassroots athletes.
The new grantees will be providing guidance to clubs engaged in taekwondo, rugby, triathlons, Gaelic sports and golf.
The 2025 grantees are:
- William Armour, a performance nutritionist with a SENR graduate accreditation, will work with amateur rugby players of the Bristol All Golds 1st team to improve nutritional knowledge and practices through educational workshops and match-day support.
- Michelle Holmes, an NHS dietician with over 15 years of experience and a world and European age group triathlon champion, aims to help improve event performance and recovery through application of practical nutrition strategies for the Belper 10:20 Triathlon club in the Derbyshire Dales.
- James Lester, a trained nutritionist with a golfing background, strives to increase awareness of the importance of nutrition and provide game day nutrition support to the Norfolk U18 squad members and their families.
- Chris McDonald, a PhD candidate with a background in sport and exercise science and nutrition, intends to improve the dietary intake, awareness of healthy eating and nutrition knowledge of Gaelic football, hurling and camogie players at the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Northern Ireland.
- Katriona Ross, a former European medalist and current PhD candidate in Exercise Physiology & Nutrition, aims to improve the nutritional habits of Momentum Taekwondo’s athletes in Glasgow.
The impact of the GetPRO Professional Sports Nutrition Grant so far
The first round of grantees, awarded in 2024, supported local clubs associated with running, football, rowing and triathlons. Athletes reported improved awareness and knowledge of sports nutrition and enhanced performance because of the support they received from recipients of the grant.
Hannah Molloy, Danone UK & Ireland’s Nutrition Manager, said: “We believe all athletes, regardless of their level, can benefit from improved access to sports nutrition. It’s great to see the positive feedback about the programme from both the local teams and sports nutritionists.”
Mark Hollingsworth, CEO of Nutrition Society, said: “We’re excited to continue our involvement with this grant programme. The new winners of this second round of funding have promising ideas and great passion for using evidence-based nutrition to support athletes of all levels.”
